to see Caesar and to rejoice in his triumph: —The triumphal procession of a conquering general was a Roman custom. There was lots to see—soldiers, chariots, prisoners, and loot. The Romans got to rejoice in Roman victory and in the conquest of new countries. However, as Marullus will point out, there will be no foreign captives or foreign treasure this time, because Caesar defeated fellow Romans. The leaders of the losing side were Pompey's sons. The battle took place in Munda, Spain, on March 17, 45 B.C.
