Note to As You Like It, 1.3.75: "Juno's swans"

As You Like It,
Act 1, Scene 3, line 75.
Juno's swans: —Swans were and are emblems of eternal faithfulness in love. The reality is much different, and in classical mythology swans were associated with Venus (the mother of the Roman people who is associated with love, beauty, desire, sex, fertility, prosperity, and victory), not Juno (the Roman goddess of marriage and queen of the gods), but Shakespeare's play is "As You Like It."
